School Closure Updates
April 3, 2020
Dear Rocklin Academy Families and Staff,
As you are aware, Governor Newsom and State Superintendent Thurmond recently recommended the continuation of distance learning for the remainder of the school year. According to Placer County Health Officer Dr. Aimee Sisson, "Based on modeling of the COVID-19 outbreak in California and Placer County, it will not be safe for students to return to school in a traditional in-person model through the end of May into early June." With this guidance, Placer County superintendents, charter school operators, and the Placer County Superintendent of Schools have made a unified decision to close school facilities for in-person instruction through the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.
With this reality, we have many details to work out, but we are committed to serving our families and community for the remainder of the school year. You will receive further updates as we have more information to share. We know our teachers will need time to plan the remainder of the year, so we have dedicated two additional professional learning days on May 4 and May 5 for planning where no instruction will occur.
Seniors who are on track to graduate will graduate. We are considering many options for graduations and end-of-year celebrations. We recognize the importance of these momentous life events, especially for our seniors, and we will work closely with our students, staff, and families to make these experiences as meaningful as possible for our amazing students.
I want to express my sincerest gratitude again to our families and staff as we navigate through these uncharted waters. I am so proud to see our community rise up together in the face of adversity, and it is times such as this that I believe our name is so fitting - Rocklin Academy FAMILY of Schools.
